There pritty bullet proof locking does tend to play up but mine only did this as my cliford alarm was gay!

Mine never did see a service in years the oil was more black than a tin of black paint mine used to run 1.5bar.

IMO there gr8 and fast cars when tunned will have another one

headgaskets

not very common place to repair them, most people fit new/2nd hand heads or engines

heater matrix's are known for leaking, back axles if its been dropped

Rear bushes go on the back, dont think they are expensive to replace though.

Theres been a bit of talk about these on here lately. Ive recently purchased one phase 2 d-turbo, Ive serviced it and changed the brakes on the back as the brake cylinder apart from that no problems. I think as long as you keep on top of them they will go for ages. Nice to drive aswell considering they are a diesel.

Head gasket goes and results in a cracked head. To repair the engine must be lifted out slightly as its tilted backwards so much you cannot work on it in this position.
Not worth fixing if the car is worth around a grand.

Mine went for over 4 years without a single problem with anything. Infact, it's still going, I just don't drive it ATM.

I got one a few weeks ago. Apart from the cental locking being mullered its fine. Put £40 quid in the tank and it lasted just over 500 miles.

My dads steering rack had to be changed and the driveshaft also broke. Dodgy speedo seems a common one.

The door seals are generally useless, in moderately heavy prolonged rain the water enters the front door seal at the top runs down inside and then flows into the car from a hole in the bottom of the seal, does this on both o/s and n/s despite my best efforts with a blade and awl to encourage water to go with gravity!

water leaks in around the aerial and collects in the central locking/interior light cover.

I own a p1 and a mate with a p2 has the same 2 above issues.

The airbag warning light is a very common fault usually attributed to a plug under the drivers seat working loose.

central locking as previously mentioned.

spare wheels being stolen, although not unique to the 306 or a fault of the car, more its designers (or lack of).

Lights dimming on application of the indicators, usually attributed to dodgy french electrics.

Front door cards usually come loose at the top, dislodging/breaking the door pins.

The cigarette lighter quite often pops fuses, again dodgy french electrics.

Mine went through a stint of eating glow plugs but has kicked that habit thankfully!

Other than that, i change my oil every 6k miles, get between 450-550 miles a tank if im caneing it, and 550-600 a tank when driving normally.

Lovely car to drive long distances in, i do 3 hour stints in mine without feeling the slightest bit uncomfortable, always has power on the motorways when cruising between 70-80.

Can't recommend them enough. Ironically!
