Hey,
I bought some steiny replicas a few weeks ago and im looking to do them satin black. They are already painted gloss black so would i need to wet and dry them and re-primer or would the gloss paint act as something for the satin paint to grab onto?
Also when i bought the skirts lammie gave me some window screen sealant to bond them on with. Im wondering if i was to remove the skirts at a later date would this ruin the paint?

they just need keying mate, if they are in good condition already then you can buy scotch pads with key the surface properly.. if they need filling etc then you will need to prime over the filler.
window screen sealant is an unknown to me mate.. i always use tiger seal.. although with either if you need to take them off it wont be easy!

Cheers mate, nah they are in good condition. Just want to do them matt black to go with the arches. When you key, can you sand down a little? Just in a few places the glass paint has left run marks

if you use tiger seal to stick them on they will be realy hard to get back off, if you use the window sealant they will come off easier but wont hold aswell

^ doubt it if he means windscreen bond the stuff that needs cutting out that stuff aint coming back off!
yeah you can sand it down no probs just use a medium grit to start and use a block then finish with at least 800 then scotch it will be fine then.. make sure you use a panel wipe or a tac rag to get rid of all the dirt and dust before paint

Thanks James, i got some fine grit paper and some satin black paint. On the skirts should the paint be matt before spraying?
If the stuff they use to bond windscreens back into place

They just need to be keyed up. You could do it with some grey scotch pads which will be quicker than doing it with wet and dry. But the aim is to get them keyed up as evenly as possible... Make sure you wipe them down with some spirit wipe befor eyou paint too otherwise you will get contamination in the paint. You can get these things from most Motorfactors fairly easily.
Windscreen sealent will stick them down nicely too. Will probably take 2 people to do it to get them on nice and straight, then tape them up to dry. You can wipe away any excess sealent with the spirit wip too

i'd sand them with 800 grit using plenty of water until the gloss is completely gone, you can rub out the runs like that too. then use panel wipe or some decent thinners if you cant, then spray a light mist coat, let it dry until tacky then spray a decent coat, let dry a bit and keep doing this until you're happy. stick them on with tigerseal or sikaflex, just use it as smoothly as you can.
stain black will look good i'm sure there was a red corsa on here with the same.
