Can't think of any other cars on the same caliber, but these seem pretty good little cars. Been reading tons of reviews and very few people have said anything bad about them. They're all saying cheap to insure/cheap to maintain and have a good build quality. 35-40mpg around town, creeps up to 45-50mpg on motorways. Not bad at all.
It'd just be for a day to day car, not a main car or be modified etc.
Got a quote for £800 FC today, which for a 19y/o isn't bad. Although I'd imagine you could get that cheaper.

Yeah, they do a 100 bhp Derv. My mate has a 54 plate one (i know it's the newer shape) but he's done some mods to the engine and it's nippy and still gets lots of MPG.

1.4 Group 4 ins.
1.9 90bhp Group 7 ins.
1.9 110bhp Group 9 ins.
It's worth getting quotes for all. The numbers don't normally mean much. Might only be £100 different.

Cheers
Colin, I did look into the 1.9 TDi but they all seem to be a fair amount more for the car in the first place, although insurance wasn't that much more as Steve said.
Whittie, yeah it does look pretty slow, but for a day to day car I'm getting for comfort/MPG then speed isn't an issue. Can have a weeked toy for that with the money I save on buying this car
I got a quote on a Cupra R for £1700 FC

Prefer the look of the MK3 Ibiza to be honest.
Can only find 1 MK4 and that's a 1.2

They drive ok tbh. Really small throttle body and inlet. Its almost like a pea shooter. OE airbox is also terrible but it wasn't supposed to be fast. It was ment to be economical, yet have enough torque for round town driving comfortably.

Took one of these for a test drive yesterday, I'm impressed
Considering it's a 1.2 it doesn't struggle, put it in 5th at 40 on a short slope and it went up perfectly fine. Seats are well comfy and the dash lights are impressive, so easy to read compared to the Corsa. Definetly considering getting one now.
Looked at Fiesta's and they are so boring and 'ergh' inside.

I've read a few times about the MK4 Ibiza interior being prone to creaks and rattles

Didn't make any strange noises. I was listening for them but there was a deadly silence.
I'm used to things rattling and squeaking having owned an L reg corsa and N reg fiesta so this was like paradise
