The Thorney stuff is desinged to try and keep the car drivable too if I remeber correctly. You can get "cheaper gains" from Regal according to their site. Whether it's still cheaper when you start replacing engines that have got too hot, and take the world-renown ambitious Regal Rollers into account i suppose is down to the owner.

a courtenay stage 1 (£495) will get you 245BHP thats without exhaust, cams etc.
just the removal of the crossover pipe, deristricted air box, KnN panel filter.
they map/fuel it while on the rolling road.
the vxr internals are the same as the Z20LET and the vxrs are standard at 245 ish
so Stage 1 197Bhp - 245bhp
full exhaust 245bhp- 255/260
VXR turbocharger/mas sensor/injectors your looking at 285+
oh and VX220 turbo
oh and iridium spark plugs
you could even get a front mount intercooler.
all for under £2000

Thats a good point
country roads maybe an issue though in a vx220, best thing about the corsa is that really not that bothered with stone chips compared to a vx220
