ive been using rear flash to get moving images, instead of just using a slow shutter speed and flash, as they get totally different effects.

On TTL flash, it flashes twice instared of once on rear curtain as it measures exposures, so ive been using manual flash.

The problem is its always over-exposing even on 1/16th power flash and im having to 'under-expose' the picture to get it right. is this just the way it works as there's no metering for the flash?

Nikon D50 btw uasing built in speed flash

Check my band pics in Flickr, they were shot using rear curtain flash, i just keep adjusting flash power and shutter speed until it all exposes correctly.

Obviously when using a flash you have to compensate for the extra light. When i shot in fibbers its dark as hell to expose it properly without a flash would need a really low ss.

Just check the exif data on my photos and you will get an idea. What is it your shooting btw?

you see your lucky and have the equipment

Ive messed with a strobe at a gig, came out pretty well. Had about four exposures of the guitarist in one shot still with light trails, came out a treat.

Did you set up at the gig etc? I'd probs just use a hand held flash.

Well, me and a mate turned up, we both have one SB-800 each, just set the flashes up either side of the stage wherever we could fit them (one on a speaker, the other on this tiny shelf) Set up the channels did a few test shots then it was just trail and error through the gig, got some good ones, got some shit ones
