They'll ask for an administration fee; normally £25, and then dependant upon the insurer charge you an amount for cover of the modification. Some won't charge anything, but you still need to inform them; some will charge due to the car falling into a different catagory [More noticeable to thieves, increased value, increased engine output etc] but it depends on your insurer - some may not even allow a modification, especially to the engine system

Each insurer is different, any figure anyone puts up here will be of no relevance - You need to call them

my insurance don't allow engine mods.

but let me add tints and alloys for £15.

i know your pain, though.
want an exhaust, thinking about fitting a 2" custom backbox and insurance might never know.

pretty much all that needs to be has already been said but:

my insurance company charge nothing for body modifications
charge £70 for each deaclare performance mod (exhaust and suspension)

it does depend on the company
bigger names wont allow any mods if your under £25, those that do might be nice like mine and have resonable charge, others will charge through the roof

for eg: Deano87 wanted to find out how much his insurance company would charge extra if he lowered....£1400 was the answer!!

Yes, yes they did. Currently pay about £700 for my insurance. 12v, FC, 19 at the time, 1 claim at fault, alloys declared. By lowering my car -40mm on just springs, it would have taken my policy to over £2000. What's more, I'd have to cancel my existing policy, and start a new one, so effectively lost 3 months NCB.
