i don't work for nothing, i just am fortunate enough that i only like 8 miles max from my work. i chose this job for the money/career enhancement and also because of how close it was to me.

I'm not saying bad things about you Ben. I actually think you come across quite sound.
Just think you need to understand that everyone is not on 30k a year, living at home and drive 8 miles for work.
It's my choice to drive 90 miles a day for work but that's to build my career and my choice. I love my job but hate spending 1/4 of what i earn on fuel per month. I've actually thought about moving closer to work but my friends and family are all here.
I don't use my car for social events anymore due to not wanting to spend even more money on fuel.
I'm in the same boat as Matty in a way. How does my company shift 30 PCs and a couple of servers on the train?

like i've always said, no one forces you to pay it...SO GET OVER IT
I've said it before when you've made this comment but I'm actually forced to use my car to get outside of my village. I wish people like you and the Government would get past thinking that everyone who drives does so for the sake of it. Some people actually need to.
The thing that bothers me with the fuel price increase is that the %age increase in petrol price doesn't reflect the price %age increase for crude oil. That aside, my weekly fuel bill has gone up about 5% and my income has not. I can easily afford to keep running the car, but that doesn't mean I'm impressed when the cost of doing so jumps considerably. The cost of fuel going up ultimately reflects on other things, so it's not even as simple as petrol going up increasing the cost of driving and driving alone.
