A mate at work was boasting how his 1.6 sport which is planing to be fitted with a decat, boast valve and a remap would gain a extra 30bhp Yet that to me sounds like total shite! is this correct? if not what would it be roughly?

In all seriousness the re-map will only give him so much and that also depends on sensors etc being tip top before the work is carried out. With a de-cat and re-map, maybe he will net between 8-15bhp. I have made it quite broad as EVERY car and EVERY engine are different. You cannot generalise so to speak, hence why re-maps are better than generic chips. Having a map of Northampton is all well and good, but if you live in Kettering it is no use.............if that makes sense.

He won't see 30bhp and with a re-map, standard fuel pressure regulator etc, he really should not need a bloody powerboost valve. He could buy a variable rate regulator from say Bosch, but he won't gain anything from it really. Standard injectors and system are more than up to the job at that level of tune. I would spend the money saved by NOT buying the valve and have my injectors refurbed and maybe give the car a service and set the emmissions BEFORE the re-map is done. Always have a good base to work from. Modifying shite still leaves you with shite.
