Eventually it's the plan, but it's too early, I don't get my years no claims till March. That's why I was hoping it'd last a couple more months

Gonna ring breakers tomorrow and see if they have any 1.4 8v's, shouldn't be more than a £100 I'd have thought.

Hopefully just alternator belt...

but could be tensioner on cambelt or something - will have to investigate by removing the alternator belt at weekend.

Last thing i want is a tensioner going at high rpm and the whole lot destroying itself.

Yes I'm fairly sure my bottom end hasn't gone hehe, pug bottom ends are bullet proof.

but if a tensioner / pulley for the cambelt lets go it could be bad times. I can't see it being the problem tho, I had new belt kit fitted about 20k ago.

most probably alternator belt / bearings.

Donate your XE?

When it started and was actually idling (for all of a few seconds) it sounds quite cool with the rattling of metal

GTE slots straight in apparently. TBH be easier just to get a SRi 8v to save hassle if I get an arsey copper. I only need it to last me another couple of months
