i used some heavy duty stuff from ebay, it was a wee bit dearer but you needed to pull like fuck to get the plate off, defo as strong as normal foam tape.

Indeed. I had my front plate stuck on with those before I put the surrounds on. Removing it to put the surround on took me about 15 minutes. I didn't realise how well it was held on until then. It certainly couldn't be removed quickly.
