How would you go about registering, have looked the site and emailed a charity, is it just a case of waiting or is it to late? anyone in the know?

and what are the chances for an unfit overweight office worker starting training in the new years chances of finishing the marathon?

Now registered for entry to edinburgh marathon

Not good tbh. A few years ago there were 2 lads who thought they'd be able to get round without training for it at all. They thought they'd run a few mines and walk a few miles.

One of them dropped down dead 5 minutes after finishing the race. He was 23 btw

well i have sent away a registration for the edinburgh marathon on 28th May
find out on the 15th january if succesful

Went over on my ankle on new years day so not started training as such yet but have skipping rope ordered and started eating healthy cutting out junk.

wieghed myself tonight for the first time in ages 16st

will update on th 15th if i am successful

dont see that as offensive, yep i know i have ALOT to do but will be nice to surprise alot of people and raise lots of cash

i am fat but not huge, quite strong. should manage to get into shape in 5 months i think

You shouldn't assume, but you should also read properly, my bad

Anyway mate, fairplay to ya for wanting to do it, my Dad did the great north run, said it was really hard and really worth it..He weighs about 15stone and ran it all.

He did quite a bit of training though, he's in the gym a lot.

Whats the distance of the marathon?

I think it's possible to get fit enough by april, but you won't be super fit.

People who just drop down dead either have not even slightly trained previously or had something else wrong with them.

I love running, it's all about mental strength more than physical strength imo. Even if you're fit you feel tired / legs ache etc get stiches, and have to push yourself to keep running. It's a case of blocking it out and brain washing yourself to keep running, as - as soon as you stop all the latic acid builds back up in your legs and shit.

I always do it by telling my brain I'll have a break at the next check point or mile marker, or corner lol... Then get there and think 'nah i'll just run to the next one and have a break' ... just keep doing that lol

I want to train for another just as an excuse to get fit again.

im doing the Great North Run again this year then aiming for london (or similar) marathon in 2009

did a 2:15 last year on GNR with not much training but a year of hitting the Gym to get in shap, only ran 3 miles max before I did 13 lol

Aiming for 20 or less this year, starting to run 2 miles in jan, 4 in feb, 6 in march etc

scales say i am now 15st 9.
not done any running yet as ankle is still not 100%
been swimming a couple times and walking as much as possibile

well the training went down the pan tbh, with moving into a new house and trying to get it all done up before baby arives.

However.............i did manage to finish it

very chuffed took 6.15:26

10k 1.11.04
2nd 10k 1.31.56
3rd 10k 1.27.50
4th 10k 2.04:36

not breaking any records but was good for me

I did the same last night when I went for a job. Was knackered but jjst kept thinking, few more strides and i'll stop. Then kept going for quite a while after.

infact half way through I felt like I could easily have stopped but carried on (mainly because it was either jog back home or walk it )
