For your uses, I'd got for the 1.4 SRi. It will be a more than adequate car, for you to build up NCB.

If it was me, I would get the diesel, but I do about 60 miles a day if I got to the missus'.

Something else to consider is insurance. Going from a 12v Corsa B to 1.4 SRi C keeps my insurance below £1k still. Haven't done a quote for the diesel.

Bare in mind diesel is more expensive to buy, and the short journeys you're doing, won't make much difference to fuel economy, as neither car is getting a long enough run.

That is another option Wooly, the 1.3 CDTi.

Not got a massive amount of BHP, something like 68, which is not much more than a 12v Corsa BUT it has over double the torque. Nippy enough, but a small engine to benefit from fuel economy.

I have a 1.7 CDTI myself and i love it. I also only live 3 miles from work but i do more driving to else where every so often.

Sure, the diesel costs more than the 1.4 but its also a much much better engine, its not just about the extra mpg . This 1.7 CDTI is a much more capable engine than my old 1.4 corsa ever was.

As for mpg though, i did plymouth to blackpool to horsham to plymouth in one day on £60 of fuel . Ive also managed plymouth to cambridge and back (532 miles) on one tank with the air con on.

I'll never buy a petrol car again .

My euro corsa was a 1.4 sri, twas good enough but not rip your face off fast, 2 be honets you wont get that from a c with out modifying it seriously!

Only one i would get is the 1.8sri if i was you. good fast enough car and cheap insurance group.

I think with the milage you do the Derv would be a no go unless you could get one a very similar price to the SRI. Judging by peoples comments in the past the Dervs are harder to get hold of so I would imagine they cost more to buy

If you are only doing that milage then your arguements for either do not really add up

Yes everyone wants a nice car but for the milage you do is it worth it. I would stick with what you have got until your circumstances change in terms of much driving you do

at this point you might be able to get a better car than the C

But if you really want to change it and it has to be those 2 it would make more sense to get the petrol unless you can drop on a derv at a good price
