if it has a folder full of receipts for engine work then it's got to be worth a punt? Bung it on the nearest rolling road to get a full report on it and to prove power, may cost £70 but if it proves it's a genuine 320bhp care which is running well then you may make an extra bit of cash?

Exactly, because selling a car in that price range will be a 'mare this time of year. I doubt theres a problem in the bucket price range aka £400 or so, or cars that are expensive as people with money won't give a toss what time of year. The £3k price range will worry those in that market due to time of the year.

The thing is though I think what Kano is saying is HE can get it for £1500, as he works at the garage. Whereas it would be sold for more to a customer.

Its going to auction if I dont buy it...

Took it for a run today and it was much faster than I expected.. Have driven a few but this felt pretty lifty on boost.. Engine seams a wee bit tappy on tickover but apart from that it seams ok. It has a full MOT and stacks of reciepts inc a recon engine in 2005..

It needs a fair bit of cosmetic stuff to be right but very tempted.

HPI wont tell you diddly squat with regards to the model. check the GC number on the VIN plate, then look at the FAQ on SIDC and you will be able to match the exact model up.

just because it had a recon engine in 2005 doesnt make it bomb proof. You can kill a new engine on these within a few thousand miles and people often do.
