Broke last week on the way to the SE meet and had to be recovered which cost £170 Part of the problem was the starter motor whichi knew and had a new one ready to be fitted. The other problem(s) god knows

So had the starter motor fitted today and whatever the other problem was to be sorted. Got home and was told all was sorted and that there was no other problems

Thought i'd go for a drive tonight and the exact same thing happened Seems to be a fuelling problem (yes it does have plenty in) It turns over but doesn't start. Then occasionally it will start and seconds later it just cuts out and dies

Anyway been towed back by my dad this time so was a lot cheaper than the AA

Fed up of this car so think its time to it off to the scrapyard

sorry for the rant

Headgasket? Sounds like what happened to my old one. If it did start it would cut out near enough straight away

check the fuel pump is working
its under the rear seats
remove the plastic cover and check that you can feel it buzz as its being turned over
if it doesnt buzz then there will be no fuel pressure
make sure the mutli plug has a good connection and go from there, fuse etc

another possabilty with no trouble codes is that the egr valve is stuck wide open
it will be very difficult to start
im not sure what engine you have but z12xe's are a pain for this
also its not a 5 min job to remove the egr and clean it
best to replace those ones

try looking at the coolent temp sensor. Happend on my old one and causes it to overfuel and then cut out. It then wont restart (just turns over and or dies straightaway) for about 20mins.

Usually before it cut out it would splutter and then puff some black smoke out.
I know how you feel as its really intermitant and very very annoying

does it start initially? allowing you to get 5-10 minutes down the road before cutting out?
my 1.2 16v did this, was the crank sensor. once the engine got hot, the sensor stopped working, and the engine cut out. after a few minutes it had cooled down enough to start again, but then it heated up and died again
