Tbh i dont undertand why vauxhall wouldnt give the right bhp figure
SIMPLE...............for insurance purposes. Some manufacturers understate their power outputs to make them more insurance friendly thus more marketable.

mine was t reg 1999 and got 75 bhp on the rollers.
But... It did also get like something shocking like 61 bhp when my Air Flow meter was fucked, originally. Then he told me to replace it and took it back, and then got the 75 (well + a bit more for exhaust).
so it's possible, anyone who felt their one was really slow, could've had a fucked Air Flow Meter - (they were pretty common to break and it was usually the oil from air filters getting on the thin wire inside that messed up their readings).

my mates got a v reg 1.2 sxi and his car is 75 bhp,
theres a short length of road mabey a 1/4 mile i dunno but hes been racing quite a lot of cars up there and his 1.2 has beat most of the 1.4 sports and quite a few of others. only 1 i know who beat him was a 1.4 sri 8v with some mods.

I can't believe that though. 1.2 beating 1.4 sports?
ok his car may be 75 bhp, but how's that make it beat a 90 bhp sport?

Insurance reasons. Lets be honest, people buying a 1.2 want cheap insurance, running cost and not performance.
And people buying a GSI want supercar performance?

wel to be fair 2 of the ones he raced were well sh*gged lol but his 1.2 is running 13"s and a load of stripping for weight, he did some custom intake mods.
it held frazer (1.4 sport) out up to 105 mph then he eventually got past him

No, to be honest I think that people that bought them brand new wanted a luke warm hatch for image.
The Corsa GSI is amongst the worst hot hatches available in standard form IMO.
