What fuel octane plugs does everyone use on their C20XE Corsas?

My numbers are worn off. I've never noticed a huge difference in any of my old cars but my current Cavalier only runs right one way round, the other way makes it hold back and have a high tickover..

What colour then? Some plugs are meant to make your car idle higher apparently.

it's for the fuel octane rating.it should be on 95.if you change them it advances your timing iirc.

Yes and as I've heard of some people it can increase certain characteristics of the way the engine performs

Well because petrol isn't stupidly expensive here I use 98 ron fuel so I could use a 95/98 ron plug if I can find one then? And just change it over if I ever need to use 95 ron fuel?

Yes, but you will be hard pushed to notice a difference in a standard engine..

I dont know why the engine I've got just now makes such a big difference, possibly the cams I've got or something like that..

Werent these plugs on the car as it was around the time leaded fuel was phased out? Im pretty sure thats why they are on the car, nothing to do with the RON, but was purely for the switch to unleaded

No they dont.
A/B plugs are nothing to do with RON.

They are to "de-tune" the engine to pass stricter emissions for foreign countries..

C20xes have knock sensors which controls ignition advance/retard, so it doesn't have/need a ron plug.

Nah, they aren't.

Ron plug slightly changes the ignition map.

As far as i know A/B plug changes ignition/mixture, to change the emissions...
Leave it on the side it came on(A i think), it aint a RON plug.

I don't actually have one, I was either going to make my own using some old resistors I have lying around or try and find one in the scrapyard. What other cars would I be able to get one from?

I was told when I was in Uni studying automotive engineering, that it was to do with leaded fuel and something about emissions control as leaded fuel had very good anti knock qualities, and to save massive recalls with cars that they had the octane plug so that cars could be switched over to run on unleaded without major work being carried out

C20XE doesnt need the octane plug adjusting it will alter the ignition timing depending on the quality of fuel needed
