looking at getting a cheap winter car as the 944 is suicidal in the snow and iv just restored the mini so its a big no and iv no fto anymore to use so whilst looking for a hack i saw a c180 sport 2000 on an x-reg with decent miles
thing is iv never owned a merc before so have no idea what they were like always been a bmw man in the past but as my last one blew up im willing to give merc a try
dont care how slow it is but i would like to know how reliable they are and what they are like to drive?
any reliability problems or things i should look out for?
cheers

Friends Dad used to have a C320 that I spent AGESSS in at driving, loved it to bits... (bearing in mind I was 15 at the time ), petrol wasnt THAT bad, but not brilliant, wasnt quick considering it was a 3.2. Pha, it was

build quality was crap, my dad had 1 because he wantted a change from BMW electronics went on strike one morning, supercharger bearing went, we also had problems with the starter battery.
was comfy and could travel long miles init without any back problems etc.
i could never by a merc but ive always liked BMWs.

I wouldnt say it was badly built, just not a patch on bmw quality! But that goes for most mercs tbh. Ive never really understood asains fascination with is essentialy a overpriced ugly costly barge.
it was pretty good on fuel considering how much it must have weighed. Auto box was dreadful, jerky and clumsy. Steering didnt feel like it was connected to anything and it wallowed like a fucking p&o ferry in high seas.
it wasnt without its charm, the brakes were fantastic and once u get behind the blomange philosophy its actualy quite nice. We never had any problem with ours but our 40k service was £1k at a merc garage and that wasnt a major one!
it was solid and a "nice" car to drive once u understood how to drive it.
needless to say we sold it shortly after the service! It was a 1998 c240 elegance btw
as mentioned if u want cheap avoid. But its lightyears ahead of a mondeo

this one has full merc service history to 86k, and just been serviced elsewhere, nice clean car, 4 new tyres, immaculate under the bonnet.
bad points, 1 air vent broke, 1 speaker blown, cant adjust mirrors as electric switch has gone AWOL.
drives lovely though!
