Surely if it's a company he'll have to go through insurance as he doesn't really have the right to take cash from someone and get it fixed

thats what i thought nik to be honest then when he had the accident he even said there wasn't a mark on his car then throughout the day had the chance to go to a garage and get a quote to repair it!!
the on the phone to me earlier the bloke turned round and said it was his car and was going to seill it oon even though its only three months old.
his story keeps hanging but tommorow he is coming round to show me the damage.
the bumper i looked at is genuine froma breakers had a front end crash i am sorcing the parts so he will never know!!
rather pay 30 than 500 pound and if i was in his shoes i would get what i could to. but i cant see there being that much damage

But if you start being awkward towards him, he can quite easily go through insurance and screw you for a lot more.

Just pay up. I had a bump a while back, went to a bodyshop to see about getting the other blokes van sorted. He told me he would be happy with a descent condition sliding door and the rest could be left. I went back to the bodyshop after he'd seen the van and he'd quoted for all the damage, told me the other bloke wanted it all sorting.
Luckily I spoke to the bloke about it and he didn't want it all sorting. End of the day tho, I'd rather have paid a few hundred quid more and sort all the damage than go through the insurance and have them rape me for the next few years.
End of the day, your missus has damaged his car, he's well within his rights to get genuine parts and take the car to whichever bodyshop he wants to, and you pay.
I was lucky, the bloke I hit wasn't bothered, I got a door off ebay for £130, and got it sprayed and fitted at a cheapo bodyshop for £140.
You've been lucky that he's letting you do it outside the insurance, some would've been straight to hospital claiming as much as possible, just give hime the £500

sometimes rear bumpers can change shape when you pull them a certain amount of the way out from the bodywork. mine says do not pull more than 10mm as it could go out of shape.
the same could be said for a 2nd hand one.
