Ermmm, being with your name, address details, driving license details and such, including no points etc
Then qualifications.
Then work, work experience, and the like.
Then a bit about yourself.
Naturally, you'll send a covering letter, so the bit about yourself has to be more your personality, no when you can work etc.
Then, referees
http://www.monster.com might be of help

just throw it in google and check them all out, nick the best bits from a few. Ask friends in good jobs for theirs and copy their layout.
It also depends what type of job your after, and whether and what level you have studied to, if you haven't got many qualifications then its better to put work experience on the first page, or vica versa depending on the job and what fits in best.
Also it should never be longer than 2 pages, some people say 1 even, but personally I go for 2.

Refs arn't needed on a C.V.
A C.V is designed to sell yourself. Coming for an interview, they don't know you from Adam, so you need to make it as professional, informative, but without being boring.
Don't write long sentances in your work ex. Its almost like a presentation, short sharp points. Then if the questioner has a question about something, then you can expand.
I've not put refs. If they want them, they will ask.
Try to keep it to 2 pages. If its massivly over this, reduce text size, reduce line spacing. Keep it neat with regards to spacings/allignments etc, as if your sending via email, the person can see how you've set the doc up.
Been building mine over 10 years now. Looks chuffing awesome.

References available on request
got that on mine in neat little italics at the bottom that all fits in.
I have a few sentances in my work experience bit, was thinking of ditching them.
Also make the inportant stuff stand out, remember cv's literally get scanned over, so use the bold function etc wisely.

Yeah, if you can fit them and need to fill the space go for it.
But i've your C.V's mega packed, they arn't needed.
Try to fill 2 pages though.
Try not to lie as well. You will get caught out eventually........
As carls said, important stuff to stand out.
Make all knowledgable info at the start, qualifications (I.E Degrees, GCSEs etc), relevent qualifications (i.E MCSE, ISEB etc..), a small section about you (remember D.O.B isn't needed anymore). Contact details, interests etc...
My C.V is laid out.....
Name:
Personnal info: (email, phone, interests etc).
Skills: Windows, Active Directory, Word, etc etc.... (but mine are all seperated into relevent sections, Admin, Op systems, DMS, AntiVirus etc...
Then a personnal statement about my personnal skills, where i want to go, what I can offer a firm etc..
Then School/College Qualifications
Then Other qualifications (ISEB, ITIL etc..)
Thats page 1....
Page 2 is completley work experience......

Guess its the work your in.
I never put any personnal statements in a covering letter. I always call first, get the name recognition, send letter accordingly.
But then again, most of my jobs go via IT Agencies. Applying direct to a firm will require a professional covering letter.
But I still wouldn't put a personnal statement in it. I'd put pure facts relating to the exact role. Gain the interest, you can get personnal at a later date, like interviews.
But everyones different and approaches it differently.
