Hi all...
Got a major problem with my Corsa at the moment and I am hoping for some help.
The engine itself has been sweet, nice and quiet since I got it 5 month ago. It has a good history and been looked after from what I can tell, it has 64k miles and full service history with the car (the car itself was all standard when i got it & well looked after).
Anyway I have put 7000 miles on it in the first 3-4 month of having it so decided to give it an oil change and put some magnatec (sp?) in it. (its probably just coincidence that it has happened only a month after the oil change but I thought I would let you know about it just in case its relevant)
Anyway...here I am a month later (the problem)
I was sat in a car park and decided to start the car up and put the heaters on because it was freezing outside, so the car was just on tick-over all was fine, then suddenly the car almost cut out and started chugging... then it just started tapping like hell. (I mean worse than an old transit diesel that’s no joke)
So I instantly thought no oil or something and switched the engine off. (no oil warning light on the dash or anything). Not wanting to take a chance I got towed home and had a look at it today.
Oil level is fine, the oil is still clean and when you take the filler cap off you can see the oil swishing around so I guess oil is still being pumped to the head.
I took the rocker cover off today and nothing seemed out of the ordinary, (had cams and lifters out etc) put them back in, while I was at it, fresh oil.
guess what its still the same... Am I looking at a new engine or do any of you have any idea's as to what would make it go like that so quickly especially as it had been such a sweet engine before hand.
I am lost as to what is up with it… so looking for your help/suggestions
Thanks

if it is the timing that is out, the valves may be bent now, the tapping noise was maybe valves hitting the pistons.
