I currently have an office based job working for a university basicly just inputting details etc,

I recently applied for a job within the university but for an IT Assistant just got back from the interview and thought that they made it sound really crap compared to what i read in the job description.

They have now offered me the job but i really dont know what to do as i relaly like what im doin at the moment and the risk of not liking where i move is what scares me.

Is anyone here familior with IT and know whats involved with 'Taking tapes out and putting new tapes in regarding servers etc'. Apparently that has to be done on a daily basis taking approx 3/4 of the day, i was hoping it would involve more problem solving work like fixing ppls computer etc setting up new pcs etc and working within the 'KITS' team.

Any ideas of what i should do.

When I 'did the tapes' at my job it took literally 2 minutes a day. It involved simply changing the backup tapes and ensuring that it had worked, and fixing it if it hadn't.

If you haven't ever had any IT training, it's unlikely you'd get to be able to do these jobs.

I think they key word with this place is 'Assistant'. It may mean you get more training and so on, therefore better prospects?! Did you ask about this in the interview?

Im a computer technician in a university, the female students are great, the staff are great but the job can get really really really boring. You will have days where you sit and do nothing, literally nothing all day.

I'd call them back and ask what tasks you would be doing. Sounds a bit boring just changing tapes all day. Plus, what happens when the company upgrades hardware to newer hard drive/chip devices?

Lies. The law has been reduced to 16. Getting her insured on that, however, is a BIG mistake.

I have to change the tapes and it takes a maximum of 10mins and we have a server which could run most small countries even though only 7 people work on computers in the whole business
