Do you still need a visa to stay and work in Europe (Spain)?

Everyone I ask says something different, as do a lot of websites.

as far as im aware you dont within the EU

i always thought countries within the eu you could just work in

you usually have to get different stuff, to do with national insurance contribution type things etc, but not a visa.

Im living in Spain with no visa, but im studying not working. Im pretty sure you dont need a visa either way though, but you may need to apply for a residency card to open a bank account here if you are planning on staying longer than 12 months.
