Unfortunately for my mate his Gearbox went on his Polo GTI - he thought instead of paying the £1000 to get it fixed he thought sod it and bought another car he got....
A Saxo VTS! - good lil car not as good build quality as the polo and feels kinda cheap inside but is still a nippy lil car...
Just wanted to know isit the same engine/chassis as the 106 GTI?

What ridiculous comment.
My VTS i had a year, gave it death, gearbox never went, and it has never had a replacement either.

On the topic of French cars mine is in the garage for 2 oil seals, sump gasket, steering rack....
Annoying much? You bet
Edit: Clutch too, since changing the main oil seal is a gearbox out job

Yeah, this 'gearbox's going' stuff is bollocks. It's only because saxo are typically abused imo.

Things break on EVERY car. I like Saxo's, want either a VTS or 106 GTi next

Think the g'boxs are known to be bad in the Polo's. As well as the pedal boxes.

Mate had his Polo gearbox done. It went bang on the way back from Newquay
Didn't cost £1k to fix though, think it was half that with a new clutch...
