Right, need to buy a few decent bottles of red wine (will be heading to tescos or sainos), so any recommendations?
Last time, i bought a chilean wine and it was bitter as buggery, so i am after something thats easy going on the palate.

Check out the scale on the side of the bottle for taste (sliding scale from bitter to sweet iirc), or better still go into a decent wine shop and ask 
Avoid anything too cheap.
I usually avoid merlot as it's a bit hit and miss in terms of being bitter.

i wish i had to the time, but need something for tonight 
So i should be aiming for something light or A-C (believe they have a rating A-E, with A being the lightest) rather than a fuller red?

Penfold's Rawson's Retreat if they have it, or any other Penfold's Shiraz/Cab mix are always great. If you want something light, how about a Beaujolais?

Best thing to do it go to oddbinns or somehwere and ask for some advicevrom the staff, usually very helpfull

italian reds ware normally quite sweet/subtle. try wine from tuscany or umbria

cheers guys, not really after anything sweet just something thats smooth and subtle, and generally works with any food and goes down a treat (as muchos will be consumed lol).
Laura - i wish i had time to hit oddbins, but i dont thats why im after something from tescos/sainos as i can do a mad rush around either on the way
anymore for anymore though, before i leave?

id give the beaujolais a try mate, its very smooth and not too full bodied, and goes with a lot of dishes. It can also be served slightly chilled, so it doesnt matter if its quite cold like most wines are when you get them straight away from a supermarket
