Author major problems with sub and amp!!!

trying 2 wire in my own sub and amp and the guy at halfords said i need to cut into the remote access wire at the back of my head unit. He said it was blue but in the amplifier manual it says to connect it to the ACC wire which is red. Which one should i be using?
