the lad on the phone said that I will need a PAS bracket which is another £30 !!!! Is this right ?

PAS pump needs to be relocated as the mount sits where the pump was. Are you using a Single V PAS pump ?

PAS Pump = power assisted steering pump.
When he says a V pulley he is refering to the type of belt fitment that drives it. If you cut it and looked at a cross section of it, where it sits into the pulleys it is V shaped (squared top). A V belt is about 1cm wide.
Other option is that it is a ribbed belt which is about 1" wide.
