most folk saying they have a 2.1 dont....
To get a 2.1 (or close to it) you'll need a bore of 88mm.
Std bore and stroke is 86mm - 1998cc
88mm bore and 86mm stroke - 2092cc
I've had 2 blocks at 88mm.
1st - scraped due to scores in bore's
2nd - bored squint or something
At 88mm there is nothing left to repair.... the block is on its limit.
If i were you i'd go for a safe 2045cc with an 87mm bore or 2069cc with 87.5 max
why are you wanting to do this if you dont need a new pistons etc? The gains are not worth the outlay if the work isnt being done anyway

i always loved the old 2.1 16v engines that appeared to have completely std inlet manifold, exhaust manifolds and still use std management. im yet to find a std piston in 88mm size

if you are needing the bores honed, new pistons etc - do it.
If your just wanting to do it purely for power, and working with an OK engine- dont, just wait for it to pop

its going to give you naff all power, waste of time doing unless you actually need a rebuild in the first place and even then Id just go up one size. If you really want to increase the capacity then stroke, with about 3k you can get a crank and with the right pistons you can get about 2.3 ish.
