was driving along the road "steadily" on thursday night when i was greeted with a very loud grinding noise, vibration and a big bang,

mines 2000 so its probably to be expected - that along with the drive shaft and the clutch!!! not to mention the timing belt that need replacing soon lol

All depends on how its drove tbh...

had my vts 12 months, and not one thing went wrong with it the whole time.

not a thing went wrong with mine until a few months ago, its had new rear suspension, driveshafts, cv joints, new clutch, thrust bearing, gearbox, all gearbox linkages, an engine mount rubber, full exhaust and brakes! also needs a bit of welding for the mot, and i think theres other bits that ive forgot too! its only a t reg too!

What's the best oil to use in the gearbox (vtr)and is it easy enough to change??

its a peice of pee to change,

24mm sump nut facing down and to the rear of the car, mine has a paper oil filter so cant comment on how easy they are to change,

I use Vaux 10/40w in mine

NO!

dont use 10/40 in the gearbox lol

75w80 or 75w90 hypoid oil
or even atf if you cant find them..
