It may be different in Scotland then as i have had numerous family and friends being let off with it through fictitious letters written by their boss.

As long as they emphasise it's critical you are at work that week you will get off, that's unless things have changed since the start of the year.

Also spoke to somebody past few weeks who has done this.

Wasn't even from the boss, was just a letter outlining how they were crucial to a project and if they wanted this confirmed to contact the boss.
