i used to have a 306 turbo d had 210,000miles on it and never missed a beat, no real problems apart from the electrics, and the back end twitching lol.
brill car i loved it to bits.
if your thinking off getting one DONT get the 1994 and 1995 engines they had a problem with head gaskets.

For the las couple of years I have had the following:
52 reg Clio Dci 80- Brilliant car and nippy, but obviously not cheap.
N reg Pug 106 1.5 Diesel- Brilliant car, really good on mpg until I wrote it off at a junction. Cost me £350 with only 63K on the clock!
Now: VW Vento 1.9 TDI, 129k on clock, Cost me £300 but isnt as good on fuel as the pug due to engine size and size of car
I'd find yourself a 106 1.5 diesel If I was you, so cheap to run its a joke!

I had an old ford escort 1.8td before the corsa. Paid £250 for it.
Ran well, good on fuel, 100% reliable over the two years we had it. It was suprising quick, especially off the mark and when over taking. Could even get a fairly late model now for £500 in good condition. Some have air con etc.
TD corsa, or 306 d turbo also good. 106 diesels are ok but their noisy and quite slow, taking almost 18s to get to 60.
As it goes, a 1.0 corsa gives around 50mpg so would be a good alternative to a diesel. I get around 44mpg normally out of my 1.2 16v, in a mix of motorway and in town.

i wouldnt go for 306 from the experiences me and my friends have had with them. 205 imo would be alot better or some sort of Vaux diesel.

defo a 306td no doubt about it.
common problems are electric windows not working, due to the loom in the door most times, short wires that end up braking, easy to bodge.
check stuff like droplinks on the front suspension, stuff like that usually need replacing if not before and it is an aging car.

yeah droplinks are only around 7/8 quid each for cheapest which is wot ud put on a 500 quid car.
rear axle bushes and heater matrix are more costlty and common, ive had both unfortunately
