Remaps are getting more and more common, we even spoke to a company today that offers custom remaps at the roadside outside your house
We had a TVR in today that had emerald management, had been mapped on the road by a local company, was brought to us as we have a RR to test it on.
it was a TVR 400se. Car made 216 bhp. Standard cars usually make 220-240 so wasnt far out. after 4 hours of mapping it was making 252 bhp and 30ftlb more torque. Perfect example of why you should always opt for a live remap on a dyno as opposed to a generic map on the roadside or a map that is written on the road.
So when you see cheap generic 'flash' remaps or the person doing them map wants to map it on the road, there is a reason it is sometimes a lot cheaper.

we can offer remaps for most cars, we have some cool stuff coming for the vx220's very soon. At present we are a bit limited with non aftermarket management (omex emerald dta etc) We are currntly very busy with the local TVR owners (they seem to like us)
I will be getting some new software next week for the VX220 models so feel free to ring us.

I had my car mapped on the road by someone and its totally spot on. Its not been near a RR and i dont ever see it going near one.

how do you know its spot on when its not been on the rollers?

Why would it need to go on the rollers? Live map with a true tuner is all i need. He sat there checking for det, watching the AFR, inlet temps seen in the real world and altering the map on his laptop. Even when you have had a engine dyno'd its best to do a final live map on the road.

dont take this the wrong way rick, but when a car is 100% mapped on the road there is no way of measuring power gains from advancing the ignition, its just a case of advancing timing until you hear knock and then bringing it back a few degrees from the point of knock to be safe, in many cases the best ignition timing point can be as much as 7 degrees away from the point of knock but the only way to find out if it is is to measure it whilst steady state mapping on a dyno. on the road you cant measure small increases in power.
for example, I had that tvr in yesterday, was mapped ok but at some points I took out 5 deg of ignition and gained 7 bhp at that map point. on the road there would be no way of knowing that removing that 5 degrees would have lost or gained power.

The mapper i use is the mapper of the fastest road going cosworth in the land. Ok that engine was dyno'd but once fitted in the car live mapping had to take place on the road as despite what it showed on the dyno things change on the road and although it might have good figures on a dyno it might drive terribly on the road.

when we map cars the yare done on the rolling road, i cant see how you can map a car accuratly just on the road.
cars we do once mapped on the RR are then driven up the road and the drivability is checked and a few tweeks made as some loadsites are only obtainable on the road.
to map a car on the road you would need a massivly long road, good brakes and no traffic to start with lol

mark, do you map to the MBB method? (minimum best timing) theres some great stuff on it on a website called EFI101.COM
well worth joining up and reading the forums, so many knowledgeable users, inc F1 engine builders use it!
