I always wanted to go into IT Support. But there's no money in it right now. I've got an unconditional offer for Network Security. Could be a good one to go into.

There's money in programmming at the minute. Waiting back to hear from some guy over an interview i had a couple of weeks back now.

You should pick a career based on what you enjoy, not how much it pays.

I would say a masters is only worth it if the your bachelors degree isn't related to your chosen career path therefore a masters in your chosen career path could prove useful.

Plenty of monkey 2nd line support/rollout contracts around at the moment £15-£18/hour. I know some contractors that were on £250 a day for doing monkey support where the most challenging thing was installing a TFT monitor and some RAM.

A desktop support engineer in a permanent role can expect 15-24k, do the same role in contracting and with a bit of luck you should earn £30-35k just doing monkey support.

How can you say theres no money in it?

I think I'm going to be doing my masters when I finish my degree, as i need to do some 'further learning' if I want to become a chartered engineer.
