I think the chassis/model is P38... the one after the classic range rover.

Anyone driven the diesel versions? How are they?

Looking at trading in the Alfa for something bigger.

Shortlist so far is

Range Rover TD or 4.0/4.6 LPG
A4 Avant TD
525 TD

There's just something about an estate that I don't like. I feel like I should be wearing a barber jacket and have 10 kids jumping around the back.
Sounds daft, but a RR doesn't give me that image in my head

I'd choose the A4 Avant from that shortlist personally, Audi make some of the only estates i'd wish to own!

I think a RR would be more substantial for towing as well over an estate

yup... the RR can tow something like 3.5t legally...

I'd prefer to have a car thats heavier than the car/trailor its towing.

The estates would do ok, just think the RR would be more suited to the towing work.

Anyone know of any common problems with that model of RR? I know about the air suspension

Range Rovers are a bit gutless on the Diesel. If youn can afford the petrol in scooby territory then the V6 Petrol is one one to have.

Mates dad tested lots of ranges before buying an 02 plate (old shape) Range Petrol.

eh

V8 i think you mean

I've had a V8 range rover before, and an Impreza. The impreza fuel bill is non-existant compared to a thirtsy 2ton+ V8 tank

I was getting about 12mpg in the old one, and the Impreza was around 22mpg

Suppose it depends if you have a budget, and how much you care about it/ potentially going much cheaper into it - Considered an Omega 2.5TD? Pretty sure it used to use a BMW engine (but this is going back a bit).
