What you need is a nice 1.4 TDi Audi A2.... £35 a year to Tax, 60+ MPG and can be chipped easily That is if you do a lot of motorway miles like me.

I hate diesels!!! I drive a Fabia VRS everyday to work... yes its quick and yes I average 50+mpg everyday but its sooo annoying not having Revs on my favourite roads! Im always changing gear (I find 3500rpm is the best time to change). Grrrrr.... Can't wait to get the Corsa on the road.

Its never bothered me that diesels dont rev as high as petrols. Always found them as much fun to drive. Torque is ace

i would say my diesel fabia easily costs 1/4 of what my leon cupra was.

i average 50mpg thats mixed with spirited driving, also the argument about diesels costing more in the first place doesnt really apply to the second hand market, new yes, second hand no

Agree with the fact Torque can be fun in a straight line but having 240lb'ft doloped on you at 2000rpm when your trying to smoothly exit a tight corner whilst balancing with the level of grip is by no means the fastest or nicest way of getting round it. I also find the extra weight over the front end really upsets the balance.

There's just no feathering of the throttle with a very torquey weisel engine, the power/torque band is just far too narrow.

I hardly ever drive cars on the limit, screaming around corners anymore as too much risk on the roads with other people about. And care about my car too much to risk crashing it now

If I was having a track car I'd have a petrol but for the road it doesn't make sense to me.

Agreed also.

I to do 500miles+ a week. but having owned both an LPG and Diesel car I think i'll be going back to LPG next time... for me it works out cheaper, you don't get that aweful diesel sound, there's more revs and it doesn't stink oh and less weight over the front.

I only need a diesel stinker for 18 months, maybe a bit less (for work). Then i'll be looking at a petrol motor again - something fun!!
