Was out last night listening to some music for 5 minutes, tried to turn the car on and all the dash lights were off. The car started but didn't run for long.
The AA came out and the bloke said it might be the alternator, then said maybe the aftermarket alarm then the electronic ignition switch. It does start and run but not for long as the petrol cut out kicks in.
I'm totally stumped what it can be as I'm not a mechanic and I don't want to take it to a garage and have them charge me the earth for parts I might not need.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To check if its your alternator you can disconnect the belt and see how long it runs for, obviously less if its working slightly.

I think the battery is keeping it's charge, it starts everytime and the headlights are bright and on.

Why does everyone always assume the garage will rip them off
Not all of us do it. and we especialy wont fit parts if they are not needed and always explain why and what was done.
