Are these the same for each car???

Reason I ask is that a car with a nackered water pump will require it to be replaced, are there any main causes as to why a water pump may fail and what could it lead to the the long run if it wasnt repaired.

they are alot of diffrent water pumps
main ones to worry about ar ethe ones that are run off a aux belt as this may snap bringing the battery light one so people tend to nurse it home not knowing that the water pump isnt working
had to replace 2 v6 vauxhall engines due to this alone!
other pumps that are cambelt driven just sometimes give up the ghost
mainlt start wurring long before they fail
could be a number of reasons why they go sometimes its because the timing belt is too tight on manual tensioners
this cant happen on an automatic tensioned 8v for example

the car in question is a seat ibiza cupra 1.8 20v turbo (54 plate, 25k) one of the pre tensioners had to be replaced due to a wurring/squeaking noise coming from one around the cambelt area, seat replaced this (under warranty) but have no found a new noise and they say it is the water pump that needs replacing, was due to pick the car up tomo but am now a bit skepticle as to weather to proceed with the purchase, after all im spending alot of money (imo, 9k)

ideally want opinions as to weather to buy or not to buy

Worst case - the bearings cease while the engine's running and it snaps the cambelt. Bad times.

If they have replaced the tensioners under warranty will they not replace the pump?

Aparently one of the bearings on one of the tensioners has been replaced but now they have found a new noise being the water pump so they say???
