I've been looking for a track car for a while and I've been offered a Pug 205 GTi 1.6 for £400. Paintwork is faded (its red, or used to be. Now pink in places) but is solid and only needs brakes for MOT.
Proving I can get a place to keep it, I'm thinking about going for it. My only thought is that its coming up for Autumn and I wouldn't get much track use out it this year....or would I? Are there many track days organised during the autumn / winter time? I don't want to buy something that I won't get much use out of this year cause I'll prob have to get shot of it in the New Year due to house buying.
Thoughts?

Do it.
Pick up a 1.9 engine as well as the 1.6, keep it as a 1.6 for a while, give the 1.9 some carbs, then use the 1.9 and the 1.6 'box, sorted

winter trackdays are fun... Knockhill runs them all year round 
205 is a great choice

My mate is well into his Pugs and has a massive parts bin with 1.9 engine etc. TBH, if the 1.6 goes then I'd go for the 2.0 8v Turbo.

Your 205 was in the back of mind when he said that. Its cheap, simple to maintain and a great wee car.

yup.....
2.0 8v turbo would ruin the car i think... too much low down torque... you'd need a hell of a diff to help it out of corners nice and flat
2.0 16v S16 engine with ITB's is the feckin nuts in a lightweight 205... seriously quick and still well balanced
