Bought my GSi as a prject lst may from a guy on this forum who swore the engine was good but couldnt start it due to the whole in the sump. Well after a new sump i startedit to find the headgasket gone. Guy never replyed to my PM's. Should have guessed it when he said he would pay if anything was wrong. Then the crank position sensor went, then the coil went and now the valve stems or rings need doing. Whats the likely hood of rings or stem seals???? The engine is on 116K miles and as far as i know its the original for the car. HELP PLEASE BEFORE I SCRAP IT LOL

ive done the headgasket as thats what i thought the steam/smoke was. ida pressure test any yes it was defo the head gasket leaking. I was going to do a drop valve proceedure which we have a special tool which screws into the spark plug hole and uses cmpressed air to keep the valve up and shut while you remove the stem seal and replace it.

Mine was smoking and it was just one single stem seal out of place. Easy diagnosis and not such a difficult fix if you've got the facility.

I never understand this.

to be different? To who?! Worth doing something less financially viable or "harder" to show your different? Why not just get a whacky haircut or the word numpty tatoo'd on your face? That would be different

2.0's are poopular cos they are cheap and fun and give you alot of bang for your buck. I wouldnt waste money on your engine, if you can do it cheap and easy enough get it done and dont do the transplant.
