After a respray, how long would you leave it untill you wax / polish it?
Cousin's stripped nova LET has just been resprayed, and wanted to know how long you should leave it?

why would you need to polish a newly resprayed car? surely the paint would be perfect anyway?

In all seriousness though i asked about wether it was ok to do mine because i always polish and/or wax the car after its been washed. New paint or not
I suppose new paint wont need polishing but nothing wrong with protecting it even more with some wax tbh

if you buy a new car from ford's you can pay them 300 quid or something to put a layer of supaguard over it to stop the need for polishing
[/trying to get ford more profit]

ok to polish straight away, it will make a differance if using a buff. Dont wax for 2-4 weeks as you dont want to seal new paint.

you dont polish or treat the paint at all for a good few months, all that should be done is normal washing and a chamois.
even if the paint has been baked it still takes a long time for all the reactions to occur in the paint and release all the chemicals.
if you wax or polish it, you can seal these chemical reactions and cause marks on the paintwork, they wont be major marks but they will be there

When the car is polished it it leaves polishand wax on the surface,
this shouldnt block the vapour release,
so waxing it is fine, polishing isnt needed,
Mine was waxed the same day of painting,

you should be fine washing it after about a week but dont go anywhere near it with a buffer for atleast a month.

I have been at Collage doing Automotive paint for 3 years now.
You can use Wax right away mate aslong as the paint was baked/hardend right.
We have taken a car out of the booth flatted polished and waxed within an hour.
As for buffering you can do it right away even with G3/G10 again aslong as the paint has gone hard
So in a nut shell aslong as the paint has gone hard you can do as you please.....

someone with some sense.
i knew as soon as this thread was made you'd get a shower of people waffling about leaving it for several weeks.
if the car has been baked and sprayed with decent 2k paint you can do what you like straight away.
this is also advice from a very good vag bodyshop i know and use.

i normally buff soon as the paint/laquer is hard but i try to keep away from the wax. as it could trap the solvents under the wax
just my personal way of doing it
