Can't imagine it taking a long time, should be a pretty straight forward rebuild tbh.

To be fair everyone always says it... Just wait a few years and buy something quicker...

When your 17 you'll struggle to insure anything, so a 1.2 16v is a good compromise between performance / insurance, they're not as slow as a 1.2 8v! or 1.0! so your better than most of the '17 year old crowd'...

I had a 1.2 16v for a few years when I was 17, nice car, I had sorted suspension, straight through exhaust - ok it wasn't the quickest, but was quicker than most 17 year old kids car (1.0 / 1.1 / 1.2 8v etc 1.4 8v etc) ... then when I was 19 nearly 20 I got my 106 Gti and was like ... but to be fair, I'd of probably killed myself if I had had the gti when I was 17 - look at the amount of threads on here recently with people crashing...

count yourself lucky you've got a 1.2 16v! and not something slower... Though best bet is to just get a exhaust, filter, alloys and suspension and be happy with it for a while...

Though I know the dbilas + remap will get you around 1.4 16v speed or maybe slightly faster, but without the torque...

I used to dream of this when i had a 1.2 16v - but so glad I didn't now as to me even 1.6 Gsi's are dog slow now

sounds good. learn to drive it quick in the twisties and you'll be able to hassle the 1.4 / 1.6s...

there's a lot of roads, where going quick is about balls / driving ability, more than straight line speed. I used to hassle loads of quicker cars in my 1.2 16v, some couldn't believe what engine it was when I told them.

I used to dominate roundabouts too, by not slowing and just straight lining them lol... Get a straight through pipe to replace the center section silencer.

Your right ive managed to keep a reasonable distance between myself and faster cars in the twisties a few times.

Having the center section silencer removed is a good mod, it makes the car sound good and makes it easier for the car to breath.
