Being a mechanic for someone elses garage is hard work. Start your own garage, thats where its at
If you don't fancy that what about service department manager at a dealership? Or parts manager? They love people who have workshop experience in these roles, although you dont actually get your hands dirty

Become an industrial designer. It's great fun, but the hours are a bit wierd. I started at 8am today, and i'm still here. But that's because the old designer walked out because he couldn't take it that I was better than him

I am designing IT integrated desks at the moment for schools. The have PC's hidden in them and either a fixed monitor on a special desk mount or a monitor that rises from a case under the desk at the touch of a button.

sounds quite cool, guessing a good knowledge in CAD and other graphics programs is a must?

Know the feeling. My boss forgot I had a day off, and when he realised, gave me all the work he wanted me to do before I went home. Ended up doing 4 hours work in 90 mins, was knackering

Well, the more 'experienced designer' fucked off yesterday lunchtime claiming that the work here was too hard. He left all the drawings fucked, the parts number system fucked and I have just had to sort out 2.5 months work in a day and a half. Only just getting to a stage where I can leave the place now

Yea, CAD is what you need. It's amazing, I was just thinking a minute ago that if it weren't for CAD I would be producing one engieering drawing every 30 mins to an hour. I can produce a drawing in about 2 mins using it. The great thing is that a lot of CAD software is pretty easy to use. I use Solidworks which is a piece of piss to learn, and you could even teach yourself if you had the drive. There are loads of courses to do on it too because you can do so much stuff with it now
