never used a vx2100, but the footage looks pretty good. What's it like shooting in the widescreen mode? Currently toying with the idea of getting a 2nd hand XL1 or XL1S body with the widescreen lens but not sure whether i should opt for something a little newer.....

im guessing you're using something like avid/final cut?

Cheers Grogan!

Dom the widescreen mode on the vx21 isn't true widescreen, just crops the top and bottom off.. So I just shoot normal and do the rest in post, that way you have room to play. And yepp, I'm using FCP to edit.

What'll you be using the Canon for mate?

ahhh ok, i thought the xx2100 stretches the image rather than cropping like majority of cameras. And yea, i guessed you was using either final cut or avid, the variable speed shot (with the old ford(?)going past) gave it away - it's impossible to do with Premiere unless you export to after effects.

But not sure really, been after a decent cam for ages as i've been doing video production for a few years and more recently video special effects (using after effects, 3D Studio Max etc, green/blue-screening) as part of my degree - so fancy an expensive toy

Well, I lie.. it's more widescreen than most. But still not true widescreen.. it's proper anamorphic 16:9 format, but just using the original image still.

Yeah neat little feature, I use after effects too but I'm still kind of new to it... I hate premiere, I used it for a year or so then ever since I started using macs a couple of years ago I've used Final Cut, and I can't stand premiere now!

Haha yeah, very expensive toys cameras are. Can be so rewarding though. I'd love to do a degree in video production.. when (or IF) I get back from six months in Barcelona next year I think I'll give that a shot.

To be honest, i find Premiere not too bad, then again thats what i started on and thats what i still use. Never had a shot at final cut, though avid is pretty good, a fair bit different to premiere though.

Yea, it would be an expensive toy but there bloody useful and i've knocked up a few music videos in the past etc Though my degree is in music tech, so the video stuff is just an extra module that i do on the side (and to make use of my two A's in a-level media studies), just to keep my foot in that side of the media industry.

Loads of good uni courses about for video (tv/film) production - a few people i know went on to Bournemouth and are now working for production companies earning a pretty penny

Final Cut takes some getting used to but it's nice, a real solid piece of kit. Do you have any of your work online that I could check out? I'm interested in what kind of work people are putting out at Uni, I dropped out of College this year so I don't have enough qualifications to do a Uni course right now, but even when I get back from Barca I'll only be 18 so there's nothing stopping me from doing one next year.
