I used on-line service and found it great. No probs atol punch in ref number, 6 or twelve months and hey presto recivie my tax disc in 5 days(apparently) just dont dont know if i should drive my car between now and then as my current tax disc has expired. what the hell i have paid for it from the start of the month.

No you can’t drive your car,as it is an offence to keep a vehicle or drive a vehicle on a public road which is not displaying a valid tax disc, even if you’ve paid and are waiting for it to arrive.

Yeah you need to display it and they're usually hot on it at the start of the month.

It would prove you have paid but its still an offence to use a car that doesn't display a disc.

They are hot all around Liverpool at the minute. I'm actually made up about it, will get some of dodgy non payers off the road, or at least that's the plan

That's ridiculous TBH if their computer is so good, why is there any need for a paper circle in your window anyway?

Mine fell out the other day, good job I sorted it

The thing that pisses me off is, lets say the computer f*cks up (which it has done in the past) and tells the police that you're not taxed or insured, yet you have the paper to show you are... would they believe you? My guess is no, and I remember reading of such a case in the news where a chap had his car crushed as a result. I will try to find it

Here is the link to the news article!

http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/search/display.var.1169259.0.police_crushed_my_car_even_though_it_was_insured_dad.php

OK, its not quite how I described above, as the chap didn't produce his docs at the roadside, but who actually carries them in their car at all times? I certainly don't, incase the car is stolen! And it is not against the law not to have them on you... just that you have to produce them within a set time, which the poor guy did.

Really fucks me off reading that again!
