raf infantry is wank. better off with a trade, so when u come out you can get another job with the skills youve learned. not much call for people to sit on airfields "guarding" them

aye, go for a trade.
A friend of mine (met him in college) just got his redundency from the RAF, was teaching the mechanical side of B52 plane maintenance. He retired from there with approx 100k package + pension!
He took me on the flight simulator they train the cadates on, and i gotta say its one of the best experiences.

haha akki, is the biggest pile of poop wank in the world. too many mosquitos and stinking cypriots.
i was in the raf for 7 years from early 99 till the end of 05.
trained as an avionics technician, done my first tour on 3 squadron with the harrier GR7. went all over the world like las vegas, canada, akkrotiri, goose bay, france, sierra leone, italy.
then a tour on nimrod r1 spy planes were we spent ourlives in the gulf or akrotiri.
most usefull trades to carry on into civvy life is probably avionics, electrician or airframe tech.
armourers arent really called for in civvy life unles they start arming easyjet!!!!
pay was ok too. i left on about 26k with 6 weeks paid holiday, another 6 weeks paid stand down after detachments, paid weekends and a few grand untaxed rates when abroad. eg, $80 cash per day in las vegas ontop of wages. mmmmmmm
ste
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

Good for you for breaking the cycle Ste W
I did all my interviews / exams for the RAF
Just had to choose what I wanted to do. Decided at 20 i'd have more options doing a hons degree then consider it.
RAF strangely agreed.

fuck em, they screw you over anyway by training you to high levels only to fuck you around and not give you any decent civvy qualifications for it. so you come out experienced but underqualified. my mate hjust come out and gone to uni to study a degree in aerospace eng at a lower level than in the RAF where he got a btec!!!!

agree with that akki and cyprus in general is really really turd.
I'm in the raf and have been for 8 years now. I'm an airframe tech cpl on tornado f3's at leuchars.
I like my job, i get paid loads of money to do very little work and its different every day. The only negative is i've kind of sold my soul and have to do the less cushy jobs like guard or rubbish detachments away (like cyprus for a month) but you've got to take the rough with the smooth.
defo join up with a trade tho the raf reg is a pretty pap job.
go down to the afco and see what they try and blag you with
and for ste w i'd love to know what you did for your resettlement to end up as a pig breeder
