are the rear wheel bearing on corsa's the press in type or not?

There taper bearings.
Can change them with a socket/hammer etc.

They dont require a press like the front ones.

You can just tighten them up, there is supposed to be a tiny bit of play in them.

is a good inch or so in any direction of play supposed to be there?

hahahaha, there fucked mate, im a qualified mechanic, just though id ask before i went ripping them out at home to find they needed pressing in!

You should be able move the thrust washer that sits behind the nut. DONT overtighten it else the bearing will overheat, and collpase,lol.
