Whats the thoughts on this? i personally think its rubbish! especially the bit about not being allowed to take passengers between certain hours.

They have been raising the age for 7 years now.
I was worried that i'd have to wait another year when i was 16.
Guess what..... i'm sure it;ll stay the same for another 7 years

i think after passingyou test you should have to wait x amount of time (a month maybe) before you can drive.
i say this because ive heard of a couple of people (1 being a mate) who have passed then the next day had an accident. wheras i waited a few weeks deciding on a car etc and was far more relaxed and less excited/confident when behind the whhel.
just a thought

I dont mind the age limit being raised although i dont see what difference it will make to the amount of 17yr old deaths, surely jus tthe amount of 18yr old deaths will increase.
I think the idea of completely banning alcohol from young drivers is excellent but surely this should be for all drivers??
The best idea would be stricter driving tests, the pass plus is mandatory and drivers are restricted to certain power band of cars like motobikers are.
This may help but theres always the idiots who try to show off to their friends and kill them all, even a 1.0 12v Corsa will do 90mph.

I kinda agree with john, and i think thats how the insurance companies work aswell, they won't insure younger drivers on faster and more powerful cars because most don't have the skill or control (mental) to drive a car with so much power.
Ryan, if pass plus was made mandatory wouldn't that just remove pass plus all together and embed it with the current driving test ?
However at times i (being 18) feel pissed off that even though i have passed, I'm going to have to wait 3 more years before i can afford to insure a better car.
ps my 1.2 8v won't even do 90 when i have passengers in the car.....unless there is a really really big hill !

Right on the money here.
Stupid idea, can't see why they're still banging on about it after 231312532 years it's been 'coming'
It's not about speed or power, it's about lack of experience, moving the age to 18 won't make people suddenly have more experience.
Limiting power/engine size is stupid too. People don't crash on straight bits of road, it's the corners, so a 1000cc car, which can do 80 in a straight line can still do 80 round a corner.
Politicians need to think
