My way, I'd do the darker bits dark grey, then have the other bits diamond cut, but Icys ones look so much better TBH, so grey up to the lip and a cut lip.

i think that you loose alot of definition though, which is why im reluctant to do it

Not if you don't go too dark, a dark silver will be fine, as long as it's obviously different from the rim.
