I saw one of these yesterday, and sat behind it at some traffic lights. It looks superb and no way represents how well it goes.
But one rather tacky thing I noticed about it. The exhausts look like they're nice and big, flush with the bumper, wrong. They are like holes in the bumper, with chrome/metal inserts. The exhausts are then standard size you'd find on any petrol saloon, set back about 3 inchs. Looked completely wank and cheap.

I feel that post may be considered completely pointless, but just wanted to share my boredom with you

Bugger
Well, this picture shows it quite well. Except for the car I saw, there was actually a gap where you could see the road between the 'exhaust trim' and the exit tail pipe.

isnt it a bit similar on corsa vxr. just a chrome surround then a actual pipe bit set back in the middle of the chrome bit?

Yeah, but it isn't so blindingly obvious on the Corsa VXR. Even the missus noticed, and she doesn't notice a lot.

Similar to those gash exhausts some Porsches have, with half a tailpipe glued onto the side of the actual exhaust. Really don't get why they did that.

why do they do it though, is it to do with the cost of making and replacing them when broken?

It must be. Look at an E46 M3, they are similar. I saw a new Audi S4 today though. The exhaust tip is actually part of the exhaust and it looked so mint. They try to make them look big and failed. The Audi looked normal & genuine.

lol. someone was bound to catch on sooner or later. i work for mazda and we couldnt believe it. the big oval is just plastic and its part of the bumper. the actual tailpipe is only about 2".
the mazda3 mps on the other hand, runs a 2.5" system with a 4" tailpipe. makes a nice burble!
