I have found an S1 inlet going fairly cheap locally to myself and a guy has offered me a remapped standard ecu for my engine to run a near enough identical spec to what I had initially planned. The question is do I buy the S1 inlet and try the ECU, the only difference in the spec will be a 4-1 on mine as compared with a 4-2-1 on the car the ecu as originally remapped for, will it work and to what effect?

OORRRR, shenpar motorsport do a package on a carb conversion for £700 fitted. This will work out at slightly more than the S1 inlet, but with possibly a greater outcome? and being it a track biased car the fuel consumption and flaws involved in carb conversions may not apply?

Your thoughts please...

Appreciated

Everyone seems to think carbs give crap fuel consumption.... as long as they are set up correctly for the right engine then you'll return a good mpg.

tbh i'd go for carbs over the inlet matey

People say converting to a dizzy is a step backward, but for what reason? How do people get around the high emissions come MOT time?

It is, as it's mechanical and therefore can wear out and has more chance of going wrong.

You wouldn't have to convert back to a dizzy anyway, you could use megajolt or something to do it for you.

Cheat I guess, find a 'friendly' MOT place.

IMO, carbs are a bit of a backward step, especially as the S1 inlet is proven to give good gains

Get the S1 inlet and the ECU, which will be fine with the different manifold, then save for TBs and management in the future

i would go for the s1 set up personally, as robin says your going from a "refined" modern fuel injection set up to a mechanical carb set up, its a big step back, even if it does give a bit more peak power id say drivability will suffer a bit....

IMO obviously
