Me and a mate are planning to enter the scumball rally as a team relating to vauxhall.
Cars must of cost under 500 quid but any modifications are allowed. The only goal is you actually complete the journey lol!
Thought id share it as it would be cool to get some other people entered. I still have to find out the exact way to enter though
Is all for charity too.
We were thinking a knackered old cavalier, or a really knackerd mk2 astra. Maybe even a dodgy corsa but going across europe in that would be a nightmare.

edit - thinking something along the lines of that. But the more rust the better really

no its 500 pounds for the car, then any mods you like.
but that just spoils it really. i think they just mean to fix up dodgy engines etc.

I've just come back from one to Casablanca, which ended up being 4000 miles in total (as we thought it was a good idea to drive it back in 26hours).
Our 67 quid (our car had to be 100 quid or under) rover ended up like this -

It was pretty damn good, but between me and my brother we probably spent a few hundred shy of £2k all in (fuel, food, rooms etc). We had a complete dog of a car, no clutch, needed a new throttle cable, brake cylinders but it was a damn good laugh!
looks like the scumball is a good rally, especially with a budget of 500 quid for the car, you're laughing

That's cracking Dom
Dan, for £500, I'd buy a Carlton/Senator 3 litre, or a Granada/Scorpio 2.9.

that rover looks absolutely mint! shagpile
well we were thinking of a senator or omega, but as i'll only be 19 with 2 years ncb ad 5 points, insurance will be around a grand, looking for 1.8's at the most.

Insure it on a monthly policy and then cancel it when you're done, it'll cost you £40 to cancel, but still, better than paying for a year

i would phone around for insurance and make sure you declare all of the mods. We struggled to get insurance on the rover due to the fur, cheapest quote was 600 quid
I agree with robin a settle for something with a bit of grunt, though i would opt for a diesel traveling that far, nothing worse than having a huge fuel bill - unlike the guys on our rally in a 3.5 V8 Ambulance, cost them £1900 in fuel alone and that was just the 2000miles getting to Casablanca

If it's a grand, I'd get a BMW 540i and put up with the fuel bill
